Port of Charleston terminal evacuated over 'potential threat'


Authorities are investigating a “potential menace” in a container aboard a ship on the Port of Charleston in South Carolina, the US Coast Guard stated Wednesday night time.

The ship, Maersk Memphis, is on the Wando terminal. The terminal is used for container cargo, and has been evacuated to permit federal, state and native bomb detection models to research, the Coast Guard stated.

The menace got here in at about eight p.m. ET, the Coast Guard stated in a press release with out offering further particulars.

It later tweeted that a “security zone has been established across the vessel whereas regulation enforcement authorities examine the menace.”
