PHILADELPHIA (AP) – A Philadelphia police officer with an eagle tattoo resembling a Nazi emblem has been cleared of wrongdoing.
The police division stated Tuesday that an inner investigation cleared the officer final month and he stays on the job.
Mayor Jim Kenney was amongst these criticizing the officer’s tattoo after photographs surfaced on social media final August. He referred to as it “extremely offensive.”
The forearm tattoo exhibits an expansion-winged eagle beneath the phrase “Fatherland.”
Kenney reiterated his stance Tuesday, saying it’s inappropriate for officers to have such tattoos given the “impression on these they’re sworn to guard and serve.”
He says the investigation decided that because the division doesn’t have a tattoo coverage, the officer couldn’t be dismissed.
He says the town “will draft such a coverage so this can’t occur once more.”
