ERIN, Wis. (AP) – Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from the U.S. Open, realizing there was no probability to get from his daughter’s highschool commencement in California to make his tee time in Wisconsin.
That is the primary time Mickelson has missed the U.S. Open since he did not qualify in 1993.
Mickelson had been holding out hope that with the potential of storms over Wisconsin, there could be a 4-hour delay that may permit him to observe his daughter graduate and zoom throughout the nation in his personal jet.
As an alternative, the U.S. Open started Thursday beneath sunshine with little menace of dangerous climate all day.
Roberto Diaz of Mexico, the subsequent alternate, formally took Mickelson’s afternoon tee time.
