International Space Station receives supplies from Dulles-based company


WASHINGTON —  Recent fruit and ice cream bars have made their two-day journey to the Worldwide Area Station, together with hundreds of kilos of different provides and analysis experiments.

Dulles-based mostly Orbital ATK’s Cygnus spacecraft was launched aboard an Orbital ATK Antares rocket at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility Nov. 12 and docked on the area station at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, two days later.

For the primary time, the Cygnus craft will act as an extension of the area station’s analysis area, with science experiments carried out contained in the cargo module whereas docked to the laboratory.

The 7,four hundred kilos of cargo, provides and scientific experiments will first be unloaded, and the Cygnus craft will stay docked to the station for 3 weeks.

After detaching from the area station, the Cygnus craft has a secondary mission. It’ll deploy 14 “microsatellite” Cubesats, a document quantity. It is going to then return to Earth, burning up within the environment over the Pacific Ocean.

The weekend launch at Wallops was delayed by at some point.

Orbital ATK’s NASA contract requires it to ship a complete of sixty six,000 kilos of cargo to the Worldwide Area Station over the course of the multiyear contract.
