CINCINNATI (AP) – Cincinnati Zoo staffers are offering essential care to a prematurely born child hippo.

The zoo says 17-yr-previous Bibi gave start early Tuesday to the primary Nile hippo born there in seventy five years.

The feminine calf wasn’t anticipated till March. At solely 29 kilos, it’s nicely under the traditional vary of delivery weight of fifty five to one hundred twenty kilos and unable to face to nurse.

Mammals curator Christina Gorsuch says staffers are giving the calf fluids and holding it moist and heat.

Keepers have collected milk from the mom. Gorsuch says they hope to get the new child to drink its mom’s milk and different dietary supplements from a bottle.

The zoo says vets and animal care employees are offering round the clock look after the child of Bibi and Henry, the 35-yr-previous father.
